My Photo Trip: HostelBookers #7 Supershots Challenge

So the wonderful wordsmith @writewrds from writewrds.com challenged me and some other fabulous bloggers to join her in sharing some photo shots we have hanging around and need to dust off and let shine. So I took her up on this challenge and I am also now taking part  in HostelBookers 7 Super  Shots.

So here it goes. Join me, imagine flipping the pages of an old, weathered and dog-eared album where the corners had been turned with love as memories were revisited, laughter shared, tears glistened, and exclamations of  ”Oh, I’d forgotten about THAT!” were made. This is our digital equivalent. See:

This is a photo that Takes my Breath Away:

Look at those flowers – the riot of colour and how they draw you toward them. Don’t you just want to meander through  to enjoy their sweet fragrance on the air, the sound of bees buzzing busily in them, and the new blooms opening to life? This is a walled garden, preserved through the love of green-thumbed community volunteers. It never fails to stop me with its stunning beauty, different each visit, and cultivated with care. It’s an oasis, a hidden gem right in the city.

And turn the page carefully to reveal another memory -

This is a photo that makes me Smile:

I’m 45 years old people, but I will NEVER be too old for my Chucks.  In this photo I’m waiting for my husband to come out of his office so I’ve perched my foot on the dash of the car. Just somethin’ to do…chillin’.  Looking at my shoe propped up there looking all styling, and so ‘who cares’ like,  made me smile. I may have even laughed ;)

The next page touches a piece of the soul and bears a long gaze -

This is a photo that makes me Dream.

Don’t you want to see where that path leads? What possibilities lie around the corner at the top? Maybe it will bring clarity, warmth, or any other of endless possibilities to one who dares to walk it.

After a long walk, even through memory lane, you need to sit and rest -

This is a photo that makes me Think.

It’s absolutely a thoughtful spot. The inviting bench nestled into a private corner with stone walls to shelter and protect is bathed in light. I’ve actually sat to think on this bench, to enjoy solitude, many times.

And thinking makes me thirsty -

This is a photo that makes my Mouth Water.

I mean really. It’s just there waiting, poured and all. In a glass that reminds you to Live, Laugh & Love. I can almost taste it and I know it was/will be absolutely tastebud-tingling satisfying.

So our digital photo journey has let us smile, dream, think, have our breath stolen, and to make us thirst for more. It will certainly require storytelling -

This is a photo that Tells a Story.

This is the story of the last time I spent time with my father outside before his final decline and passing from cancer. It was during the famous and lovely Tulip Festival and we stopped to admire the lake – the water was calm and soothing. Across the lake is a building that just happens to be where he worked prior to his retirement. So this photo tells a story of my father’s love for the flowers, trees, water, and the view he enjoyed each day from his desk. It is the story of a daughter’s love for her father and the day we got a reprieve from the illness that would steal him, to enjoy a lovely outing on a beautiful spring day, in a place forever etched on my heart.

And we should dry any tears that may have slipped away, to turn the final page of our digital photo journey -

This is a photo of which I am Most Proud.

Strange? Not really National Geographic worthy indeed, but it was an accidental arrangement. I happened to be spending time on the bench from our thoughtful spot above and I’d dropped these rosary beads to rest on my lap to take a few photos. When I looked down they struck me as lovely and peaceful, a symbol of calm and comfort. So I snapped the shot and the final result I find striking and symbolic of the grace that resonates through my life.

Let’s imagine closing that album cover with gentleness, filled with the pleasure of having taken a few minutes to ponder, to remember, and to feel. We can place it back on the shelf and take it out any time – we should do it more often.

So now I make my challenge to some fellow bloggers – I choose five bloggers to give it their best shots in the HostelBookers 7 Super Shots:
